For over 16 years the Young Treasures (formerly Pawleys Island Youth Arts) scholarship program has been identifying talented, young students who excel in music and visual arts. During this time, nearly $70,000 in scholarships have been awarded to more than 100 students.

Scholarships help pay for one-year's private study. Winners are asked to perform at various community events during the year, including a recital at the end of the scholarship year.

The scholarships are awarded, based on audition performances or juried art competitions. Judges for the auditions have included the Music Director of the Long Bay Symphony and Coastal Carolina University professors. Jurors for the visual art include professional artists who teach classes for the Cultural Council.
Over the years, scholars have gone on to major in music at prestigious music schools, conducted orchestras in the U.S. and Russia, become music teachers, studied their craft abroad, and much more!
In 2007, three scholarship winners went on to study at the SC Governor's School of Arts & Humanities; in 2008, two winners were selected to attend the Governor's school.

Funds for the program are entirely from private individuals. The number of scholarships awarded is based entirely on the money donated. Consider sponsoring a Young Treasures (possibly one of tomorrow's stars) by funding a scholarship at the $300 or $500 level.
