Ruth Cox
Artist, Instructor

Ruth Cox, a native to the Grand Strand, received a BA in Arts Education from the University of South Carolina in 1968.  She was an art teacher at Aynor High School, Aynor, SC and School Volunteer at Myrtle Beach Primary School, where she also taught art and trained other volunteer teachers to teach arts and crafts.

In recent years, Ruth has taught workshops and classes in North Carolina and South Carolina.  She has also had professional training from well-known artists such as Alex Powers and Perry Austin.  She is currently a member of the Waccamaw Arts & Crafts Guild,  the Seacoast Artist Guild of South Carolina, Inc., and the Southern Ladies Art Conference.  Also as a member of the WetCanvas.com international website, she has contributed two instructional articles and several demonstrations. 

Her favorite type of painting is Plein Air.  Ruth is a founder of the local plein-air painting group, the Plein Air Landscape Society, or PALS, and is a Signature Member of the INternational Plein Air Painters.  Her work has won awards in shows held in Wilimington, NC; Southport, NC; Moncks Corner, SC; and Orlando, FL.

Currently, her work can be viewed in the Collector's Cafe, Myrtle Beach, SC; Webb-Rawls Galleries, Columbia, SC; Sunset River Gallery, Calabash, NC; and Southern Portraits & Accents, Myrtle Beach, SC.  She is also teaching class for the Cultural Council of Georgetown County.  Check out her schedule under the "Ongoing Studios & Classes" section of the "Classes" page.
