Brookgreen Gardens Announces Grand Opening of Childern's Discovery Room
Brookgreen Gardens -- Mar 12, 2009 --

(March 12 2009, Myrtle Beach, S.C.) — Representatives of Brookgreen Gardens, a National Historic Landmark, announced they will host the grand opening ceremony for the new Children’s Discovery Room on Saturday, March 21 at 11:30 a.m. in the Wall Lowcountry Center Courtyard.

Developed by education specialist Linda Beckham, the Children’s Discovery Room features seven interactive stations, including Tree-mendous Trees, Dig Into the Past, Rubbing Off Nature, Color Gullah History, Sculpture Studio, Observe Nature and Picture This. Designed for younger guests, from four to 12 years of age, each interactive station entertains and educates children about the rich history, nature, art and heritage found at Brookgreen Gardens . Funded by the American Timberlands Company of Columbia, S.C., admission to the Children’s Discovery Room is free with paid admission to the gardens.

“ Brookgreen Gardens is dedicated to developing programs and attractions that speak to the children and young people of the Myrtle Beach area and the Lowcountry,” said Helen Benso, vice president of marketing for Brookgreen Gardens . “It is important for everyone in our community to understand and appreciate the great heritage and culture that began here centuries ago, and we hope that the new Children’s Discovery Room will instill a sense of curiosity and interest in our children so that they will grow to appreciate the natural beauty and timeless art that we have here at Brookgreen Gardens.”
