(Pawleys Island, SC January 26, 2009) - Joining the Cultural Council family is artist Deborah Broad. Hailing from Taos, New Mexico, Broad is a master of pastels and drawing with extensive knowledge in oil and acrylics. Broad, originally from Pennsylvania, studied fine art at the New York Phoenix School of Design and the Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia. She has exhibited in many shows and galleries, owned galleries in St. Croix and Taos, as well as won numerous awards for her impressionistic pastel works in shows of the Pastel Society of America and the widely popular Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA. Starting in February, she will offer three weekly opportunities for artists to dabble in different mediums the Cultural Council has not offered on an ongoing basis.
- Every Wednesday, 9am-Noon Ongoing Pastels Class- Starting February 4, students will learn the basics of pastels. Broad will discuss composition, drawing, the proper use of pastel, color theory, and layering techniques.
- Every Wednesday afternoon, 1-4pm, Ongoing Studio- Also starting February 4, students can work on independent projects in oil, acrylics, or pastels while seeking her advice and opinions.
- Every Friday, 9am-Noon Ongoing Drawing Class- Starting February 6, students will grasp the essential fundamentals to creating a solid work of art. Painters can strengthen skills by learning the importance of trusting the eyes, and not the mind. Working from basic, simple still life objects, students will learn various ways to shade and create believable 3 dimensional images.
Cost for each class is $65/month for Cultural Council members, $70 for non-members. To register for these classes and obtain a materials list, contact the Cultural Council at 843-237-3035, stop by the office in the Litchfield Exchange, or email Admin@CulturalCouncil.info.
