CALL FOR ENTRIES:  Cultural Council Presents Carolina Canvas Art Show

We'll be holding an art show, Carolina Canvas, August 23-29 in the Litchfield Exchange, right across the hall from our office.  The show is open to all artists in Georgetown and Horry Counties who are at least 18 years of age and with at least 3 years of experience.  All entries' subjects must relate to South Carolina.  Three local judges will award Best in Show, 1st Place, and 2nd Place.  Read more.

 

Young Treasures Book Project Needs Your Help!

The Cultural Council is putting together a book on the Young Treasures, formerly Pawleys Island Youth Arts, scholarship program.  With the program having started in 1993, we have hit some roadblocks in gathering information on its 16 year history.  Some of the information is out-dated, such as contact information on past scholars.  We NEED YOUR HELP in filling in the blanks!  (Picutred right:  Regina Thompson plays at the 2009 Young Treasures Recital).   Read more. 

 

 

Tidelands Hospice Resale Shop

Volunteers are needed to make Tidelands Community Hospice Resale Shop POSSIBLE by volunteering to help during the set up and spreading the word of the Resale Shop. Donations are needed, and are already being accepted at Tidelands Hospice Resale Shop located in the Winyah Villiage Shopping Center in Georgetown. Read more.   

 

 

UPCOMING CULTURAL COUNCIL CLASSES 

  • *MOVED TO FRIDAYS* Summer YOUTH ART Classes with Johnnie Roberson.  Youth, ages 10-15, can catch a class or two with Johnnie Roberson.  While Johnnie knows the ABC's to fine art, her whimsical style brings in out-of-the-ordinary tools for creating unique art!  The summer ends with an art show.  Every Wednesday FRIDAY, June 17-August 14.  Read more.

(May 4, 2009) Brookgreen Gardens Wins State Non-Profit Award for Excellence

Brookgreen Gardens was teh recipient of the 2009 Erin Hardwick Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management presented by South Carolina Association of Non-Profit Organizations (SCANPO) at their annual conference in Spartanburg, SC on Thrusday, April 30.  The award was in recognition of Brookgreen Gardens as 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has excelled in the management of their organization.  Read more.

(April 13, 2009 ) Litchfield Dance Students Earn Scholarships, Recognition at North Carolina Event

Litchfield Dance Arts Academy (LDAA) students were honored for their performances during the April 4-5 New York City Dance Alliance (NYCDA) regional convention at the Greenville Convention Center in Greenville, NC.  The convention is one of 23 held across the country in preparation for the organization's national New York City-based event in July.  Read more.

 

(June 27, 2009) National Sculpture Society's 76th Annual Aawards Exhibit Opens at Bookgreen Gardens

The National Sculpture Society’s 75th Annual Awards Exhibition opened June 27 in the Rainey Sculpture Pavilion at Brookgreen Gardens. This juried show includes the work of 41 prominent sculptors from across the country, including 15 prize-winning works and will be on display through August 23. During the course of the exhibit, visitors will be able to vote for their favorite sculptures to win Brookgreen Gardens ’ People’s Choice Award. Announcement of the winner is made during a celebration on August 22.The exhibition is free with regular garden admission.             Read more

 


The Cultural Council -- "official arts organization of Georgetown County" --  is an independent 501c3 non-profit organization.  

Our mission is to work at creating a better community through the arts by 
1) developing opportunities for artists to learn, perform and display
2) supporting development of arts and cultural events for local and visiting audiences; & 
3) as a focus, exposing youth to art, the creative process and its benefits to the community.
 

 Programs and events we support and manage include:

  • "Treasures of the Tidelands" spring Arts Fest - promoting and supporting local artists and arts groups
  • "Young Treasures" music & art scholarship program for youth
