| The Murrells Inlet Community Theatre got its start in April 1998, when 32 people of assorted backgrounds and hometowns met at the old Murrells Inlet schoolhouse (now community center) to explore the possibility of forming a new community theater. Everything clicked. After electing a board of directors, the group polled attendees at a local festival and came up with the name Murrells Inlet Community Theatre (MICT).
Like many amateur theater companies, MICT began with primitive implements, including flats made of cardboard (donated by International Paper Co.) and a homemade lighting console and vegetable-can lights (thanks to the late, great lighting guru Hank Alexander). But with resourcefulness, determination and lots of community support, MICT was soon ready for its debut. In November 1998, the curtain went up on Neil Simon’s “Plaza Suite,” directed by Linda Hopkins. It was a smashing success.
To date, MICT has presented over 35 plays, including traditional works and many "off the beaten path.” Three plays are performed each season, beginning with a fall production. All take place at the Murrells Inlet Community Center, 4450 Murrells Inlet Road.
MICT is always looking for new talent, including actors, production crew and volunteers. For more information about opportunities and upcoming plays, call (843) 651-4152 or visit www.mictheatre.com.
