In 2008, The Village Group was awarded a Cultural Council sub-grant to help support the 4th Annual Plantersville Community Heritage Festival.
With over 1,100 people in attendance, the 2008 Plantersville Community Heritage Festival was a success! The Festival, in its 4th year, was held at the Community Park behind the Plantersville Elementary School, bringing many areas of the county together to celebrate the role the Plantersville community has played in the development of Georgetown County.
The 2008 Festival kicked off on Friday, June 27 with the annual Plantersville Community World Series Softball Game. Saturday hosted the biggest portion of the celebration with a Senior Citizens Fish & Grits Breakfast, lots of youth activities including inflatable slides, rock climbing, kid prizes, adults enjoyed Bingo games with prizes, and arts & crafts displays.
The Heritage and Cultural Segment featured entertainment by Laurie "CJ" Cohen, the guest hostess, The Healing Force, Southern Praise of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Terry Cox and Company, and the Kingstree High School Drum Line. Emekris and The True Concept Reggae Band also performed. A spectacular fireworks display concluded the exciting day of festivities!
Ray Funnye, Executive Director of the Village Group, said the goal was to have a festival "that recognized the importance of the community. We know Plantersville has a great legacy and we want to bring the people of this community together to celebrate that legacy."
